What is a Network?

A network has different devices connected with each other and is allowed to share data. The connection may be either wired or the wireless. Network and Networking are all that you need to know more. In networking we design networks.

In a computer network, two or more computers are linked with each other. The computer network is also referred to as data network. Their main purpose is the transmission of data.

Network Devices:

Some network devices include:

1)Router
2)Switches
3)Modem

1)Router:

The responsibility of this network device is to forward data packets. They are electronic devices that join the computer networks. They do this by a wired or a wireless connection. In your home network, you have IP routers that connect the computers in your house.

You can easily reset its settings from your web browser. You will just need to login on an account and will be asked for some details to reset its settings.

2)Switches:

It connects devices on a network by using packet switching. It is also referred to as a network bridge. It processes the data by using hardware addresses. It has multiple data cables plugged into it.

There are arranged and un-managed switches. The difference between the two is that the first one's operation can be modified easily while the second one has no configuration interface.

3)Modem:

This device is responsible for modulating and demodulating the signals. You can classify them by the amount of data they transmit. The data sent is expressed in bits per second.
Some common modems are:

The wireless modem is also common. You can embed them in your laptops.
Voice Modem can record voice.

Classifying Network By Their Scope:

In this way they can be classified into:
a)LAN b)WAN c)MAN d)CAN

a)LAN:

LAN is the Local Area Network. It is spread in a small area They are mostly in a single room or a single building.

b)WAN:

WAN is the Wide Area Network. It is spread over a wide or a large area. It has many small LAN connected with each other.

c)MAN:

MAN is the Metropolitan Area Network.  The area that it covers is larger than a LAN but quite smaller than a WAN.

d)CAN:

CAN is the Campus Area Network. It has different LAN interconnected with each other in a quite smaller area.

Types of network topologies:

Some common types of computer network topologies are:

1)Tree network:

In a tree network, two or more star network are connected with each other.

2)mesh network:

a mesh network consists of radio node.for the propagation of message mesh network uses routing or flooding techniques.

3)star network:

A star network has a central hub Every node is connected to this hub.

4)network fabric:

In this topology, the data is transmitted by using switches that are interconnected with each other.
